Rio was down and seemed to stay that way. For a moment, Jennie could only stare before her head cleared from the adrenaline rush of the heated duel. She was dripping sweat, her bosom heaving from heavy breathing. The blood from her wounds mixed up with the sweat, coating her body in red. She looked around, as if expecting to see an audience witnessing the fight with Rio. No one stared back but the jade walls of the ancient city. Still, Jennie felt a presence, a pair of invisible eyes staring at her - a feeling she'd had ever since she arrived in the Twin Serpent capital.
Jennie continued towards the molten gold disk of the evening sun, towards the great malachite zikkurat in the distance. She wasn't sure why, but she felt that was where Amaru was being held. It was the direction Rio had come from, Jennie noted in her mind, but before she had time to even think of anything else, she heard a blood-curdling roar from behind her.
Rio lunged at the blonde warrior, an ebony blur in the air. She threw a punch slowed by fatigue, but fearsome enough to make Jennie flinch back. Jennie swung at her enemy, but Rio's attack had been but a feint. Rio dove down and grabbed hold of Jennie from the waist. Jennie pummeled her back with her fists, but Rio's strong muscles absorbed the power of the strikes. The Twin Serpent warrior pushed Jennie back, trying to force her off her feet. They staggered to the edge of a long flight of steps - and, their bodies tangled together, fell down.
